At Beetroot Blue, we’re all lovers of great fresh cooking and we prepare our food with care and flair so you’ll taste the benefit. We use local suppliers as much as possible, fresh is best, and we try to keep the miles that our food ingredients have to travel to a minimum.

We spent a great deal of time selecting the packaging we use here at Beetroot Blue. There were a number of criteria that were very important to us when choosing the range we use. These included presentation of food, freshness of food, food miles involved in delivery of food, hygiene and recyablabitlity.

As you know, Beetroot Blue is a drop off service; this was decided to avoid additional food miles by returning to a venue to collect dirty dishes, which then have to be washed using detergents and energy before re-use. Such dishes can also chip and get cracks in them, which may harbour germs and therefore not be a hygienic method of presenting food.

We made the decision to use the PET plastic trays and lids, as they are recyclable and hygienic. They are made of the same plastic as fizzy drinks bottles and can be recycled in the same manner. They also provide an airtight presentation of our food which means the products arrive in tiptop condition.

To recycle the platters we’d advise you to ask your company’s recycling manager to arrange for collection from one of the many companies who collect recyclable materials.

You may be interested to know that we are liasing with a packaging supplier to move towards a tray which performs as well as the current tray but is made from recycled food grade card. This may be some way off but we are as a company moving to a more focussed environmentally friendly and sustainable offer.
